Frequently Asked Questions
DMX Carpet Pad features a patented air-gap design that separates your carpet from the concrete subfloor. This allows moisture vapor to dissipate beneath your carpet, create a thermal break that helps keep floors warmer in colder climates, and reduces the potential for mold and mildew growth.
Traditional carpet pads that sit directly over moisture prone areas (basements/slab on grade) can trap moisture over time. DMX Carpet Pad features a patented air-gap design that allows moisture vapor to dissipate beneath the carpet, helping reduce the conditions that can lead to odors, mold, and mildew. Additionally, DMX Carpet Pad uses closed-cell foam that does not absorb moisture.
No, DMX uses a closed cell foam that can not absorb moisture. The entire carpet pad is 100% waterproof.
DMX Carpet Pad features a total of 4mm of foam, including a 1mm foam layer on the dimpled side and a 3mm foam layer on the flat side. Its feel is comparable to an 8-10 lb premium carpet pad, providing a balance of comfort and support. This density was intentionally engineered to provide cushioning underfoot while helping extend the life of the carpet and reduce the potential for rippling or overstretching over time.
DMX Carpet Pad is available online through the Home Depot (USA) and directly from DMX Membranes. Please note that orders purchased directly from DMX are subject to shipping charges.
Yes. DMX Carpet Pad can be installed over both concrete and wood subfloors. However, the moisture-management benefits of the air-gap design are most beneficial when installed over concrete.
DMX recommends the use of regular broadloom and peel and stick carpet tiles but not glue down carpet tiles on DMX Carpet Pad.
No. DMX 1-Step 2.0 is designed as an underlayment for floating laminate and vinyl plank flooring, not carpet. For carpet installations, we recommend DMX Carpet Pad, which is specifically designed to provide moisture management, comfort, and support beneath carpet. No additional carpet pad is required when using DMX Carpet Pad as well.
DMX Carpet Pad is installed similarly to traditional carpet pad with two key differences. Firstly, install DMX Carpet Pad with the dimpled side facing the subfloor/flat side facing up. Secondly, when joining tack strips, leave a ⅛” gap between adjoining pieces to allow for air circulation beneath the floor.
Yes, but please remember that there must be a ⅛” inch space between each tack strip to allow any moisture that accumulates under DMX Carpet Pad to escape.
DMX Carpet Pad can be installed using the same tools typically used for a traditional carpet installation, including a utility knife, measuring tape, tack strips, and standard carpet installation tools. No specialized tools are required. Please note, each roll of DMX Carpet Pad includes a free roll of DMX Joining Tape.
If you run out of DMX Joining Tape, you can use any Vapor tape from your nearest hardware store.
Yes. Excess DMX Carpet Pad can be used beneath area rugs, playrooms, storage areas, or other spaces where additional comfort and moisture protection may be beneficial.
